Team Meat Prototyping Tech For Possible Super Meat Boy iOS Release

Team Meat co-founder Edmund McMillen has revealed that the studio are looking into the possibility of bringing acclaimed platformer Super Meat Boy to mobile platforms such as Android and iOS in some form, and are already dabbling with tech and testing out prototypes.

"We are currently developing tech for the next game that might be a touch remake of Super Meat Boy for both [iOS and Android] platforms mentioned," he explained.

"If we end up doing it it won't be anything like the version people are familiar with but something new that embodies the SMB spirit."

McMillen revealed that the impetus had really been led by the fanbase, with the question around SMB coming to mobile platforms being the one that's been asked the most.

"Bottom line, SMB on a mobile device is by far the most requested thing we get asked and a few months ago we started playing around with a very odd idea that could make SMB work on a touch devise," he added.

"It seemed fun and inspired so we decided to start prototyping it to see if it was worth making. That's where we still are."

There aren't any guarantees, though, and McMillen was keen to state that if it wasn't up to scratch, it wouldn't be coming out.

"Who knows if it will happen or not, if it sucks we won't release it, if it's fun we will continue working on it." [Eurogamer]

I get the impression they're trying to avoid the virtual joystick/joypad, then. Good result - I'm sure it's not just me who thinks they just don't work without the tactile feedback!

I agree. Yet to find a proper platformer that doesn't make me start swearing within the first minute on iPad.
