If you saw the words Telltale and Game of Thrones pout together in that title up there and started having all of these strong, warm feelings and all of a sudden found yourself in uncontrollable throes of ecstasy, well, see a doctor. But the fact remains that an alliance between George Martin and Telltale Games might yield an episodic series of choice-driven, nail-biting, nerve-shredding moral quandaries the likes of which have never been seen.
If it happens, of course. Pinches of salt at the ready.
IGN has apparently "learned from multiple sources that Telltale Games is developing a game based on George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones." The site makes the point that Game of Thrones is but the first novel in the series A Song of Fire and Ice when discussing the books, but form the overarching brand titles for the HBO TV series. Either way, the thought of Telltale putting their best scribes to work in Westeros -- presumably developing a narrative that would avoid the direct plot points of Martin's novels and HBO's scripts -- is positively mouthwatering.
But before we get too ahead of ourselves, it's important to remember that this is but a rumour at this point in time. Telltale have responded with that gloriously non-committal reply that companies always wheel out when they don't want to talk about something that is probably happening.
“We get these sorts of rumors about what we could be working on next cropping up all the time," said Steve Allison, SVP of Publishing. "Officially we have no comment.”
Oooh Steve. You big tease.
Of course, back in October, Telltale CEO Dan Connors gushed that Telltale “can’t wait” to announce its upcoming projects, and excitedly revealed that the company was beavering away on licenses that “definitely fall into our dream IP scenario.”
One of those, of course, is The Wolf Among Us. Which is awesome. But we have to say that a Game of Thrones series would be right up our street. Think of the twists! The murders! The familial betrayals!
But that's just our opinion, what about you, dear reader? Would you like to see a Game of Thrones series from Telltale? Better yet, what IPs do you reckon the team should get stuck into next?
Thanks to Goz for the tip!
