Titanfall beta announced for Xbox One & PC, tipped for Valentine's Day

Prepare to prepare for Titanfall.

Following a limited alpha test early this month, Respawn Entertainment boss Vince Zampella has confirmed that their ambitious FPS will receive a much more comprehensive round of beta testing very soon. "Announcement time," he tweeted. "I'm sure no one has been able to guess from the leaks. PC and XboxOne Beta! Details in the coming days."

Considering that Titanfall is scheduled to release in March, we rather expect this so-called "beta" to be a heady blend of hype demo and stress test. Naturally we'll keep you up to date with the details - if it's anything like the Battlefield betas, select testers and pre-order customers will get early access before a more comprehensive rollout.

The "leaks" Zampella mentioned stem from French retailer Micromania, whose marketing materials appear to explicitly confirm a beta for Valentine's Day. [via Xboxygen] Perhaps it's worth getting in a nice bottle of wine, dimming the lights, igniting a few candles and snuggling in for an evening of annihilating squads of enormous mechs.

Titanfall may have recently drawn fire for its 6v6 player limit, but its attempt to bring singleplayer campaign context - including a strong storyline and AI combatants - into the multiplayer arena should make it feel totally unique. Matt has already tested its versatile parkour and enormous exoskeletal battlesuits and can barely contain his excitement.

Xbox one killer app?

Can it count as a killer app if it's also available on the console's predecessor (and pc)?
I guess that depends on whether there's much difference between the versions.

Fair point!

(especially since I will be playing on PC - haven't made up my mind whether to go PS4 or Xbox One yet - this time around I don't think I can justify buying both - at least not until the prices go down and/or the range of games has increased)
