Drum Roll Please: The Top Ten UK Game Brands From 1996-2012

GFK Chart Track has provided Eurogamer with a list of the top ten most successful games brands in the UK from 1996 to the present day, in terms of both copies sold and revenue generated.

Drum roll please. Place your bets now.

Top Ten UK Game Brands From 1996-2012, ranked by copies sold

  1. FIFA (also 1st by revenue)
  2. Mario (3rd by revenue)
  3. Call of Duty (2nd by revenue)
  4. The Sims (5th by revenue)
  5. Grand Theft Auto (4th by revenue)
  6. Sonic (8th by revenue)
  7. Star Wars (6th by revenue)
  8. Need for Speed (7th by revenue)
  9. Lego (12th by revenue)
  10. Pokemon (11th by revenue)

Going by revenue, LEGO and Pokemon would be replaced by WWF/WWE and Pro Evolution Soccer respectively.

Any surprises here?

If Wii-... counted as a brand I'm sure it would be in there somewhere.

According to wiki "Overall series total 192.76 million" that's worldwide units not money!

The list is based on UK data alone - perhaps us Brits were less receptive to it?

Why the hell do this from 1996? 16 years? Random?

Would be more interesting to see 2002 - 2012 or maybe in 5 year chunks. To compare how the trend is changing.

Call of Duty 1 came out in 2003, so that's 7 years head start things like Mario had over it, so this is a totally pointless figure.

I'm surprised Sonic is so high up, considering most of the recent stuff is rubbish (a few exceptions, I know).
