The 3DS is a great piece of tech - I was genuinely taken aback by the three-dimensional screen - but it's been somewhat lacking in must-have launch titles. But that's all about to change - probably - as Nintendo is prepping Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D for a July release on Nintendo's new portable. The Mercenaries mode has long been a bonus feature of RE titles, but now its getting the full standalone release treatment.
Pitting you against waves of zombies as the clock ticks precariously away, Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D puts you in the boots of numerous franchise favorites from Leon Kennedy to Claire Redfield. Each downed zombie nets you points, whereas chaining together kills nets you even more points! And in a move similar to Call of Duty's perk system, you have three Skill Slots to fill, which can decrease your reload times or increase your running speed.
We're pretty psyched to finally get our hands on some three-dimensional quality on the 3DS. But I have to wonder, with the 3DS' launch hitting the height of mediocrity - it hasn't been bad, but it hasn't been amazing, by any means - I wonder if Nintendo's attention has been split between its new portable and the new home console we all know is coming?
