Resources Saved For "Other Pursuits"
Trendy Entertainment has officially cancelled the PS Vita Port of Dungeon Defenders, their sensational RPG/Tower Defence hybrid, in favour of allocating resources to a new project.
I've been looking forward to portable Dungeon Defenders action ever since the original came out, and this actually influenced my decision to buy a Vita. I'm now off to lie in a darkened room and enjoy some primal scream therapy. Upsetting details below.
"We originally showed off a tech demo of Dungeon Defenders running on Sony’s handheld early last year," explained Trendy Entertainment in a recent update. "E3 came and went, and our fans noticed that nothing was said about Dungeon Defenders for the Vita. While we believe the Vita is a very capable platform, we’ve decided to shelve the Vita port of the game."
We mentioned the project in several podcasts, suggesting that its PS3-Vita cross-play mechanics would have been a fantastic fit for a portable device, not to mention its addictive gameplay. However, Trendy also revealed that financial and development resources have been reallocated to a new project, which will apparently be "worth the wait."
"Many fans, including myself, would like to play Dungeon Defenders on the portable device, but ultimately, we’ve decided to divert those resources to other pursuits. We can’t talk about these at the moment. In fact, you may not hear about these for quite some time. But trust us when we say it’ll be worth the wait."
We'll keep you up to date with the latest. In better news, here's a picture of the Sky Captain: a new costume/skin for the Initiate Class that will be added in the next Dungeon Defenders DLC pack. Could it have anything to do with their new project?
