The Troll Poll | Who Will Win E3?

It's that time, folks. Time for the Most Pointless Question EVER! But we're going to ask it anyway, because this is arguably The Most Important E3 EVER!

The industry is on the cusp of tectonic change, and E3 will be the first proper glimpse into the new era that will be ushered in by the next generation of games consoles.

The pre-presser presentation pitches have been made. We're primed for an E3 that's all about the games. So who do you think is best set to take the crown, and win the hypetastic game of ultimate awesomeness that is the gaudy carnival of gaming spectacular: E3 2013?

Take your time, think carefully about your answers, check out our massive predictions piece for the Big Three's press conferences and make an informed choice. Tune into the Game Buzz tomorrow at noon when we'll be discussing this topic at length, and coming to some bold conclusions. Then cast your votes, and let us know who you voted for and why in the comments box below. There could be a promo copy of The Last of Us (check out our review here) in it for you.

We'll close the competition at 4pm on Monday, ahead of the pressers themselves, and determine a winner on Tuesday after the smoke has cleared.

SONY. PS4 seems supperior in terms of specs and looking at the slim PS3's design, it can only get better for the PS4 in terms of looks. Maybe a transparent case with adjustable LED lights. So, your PS4 could have a different colour as you wanted.

I am not personally impressed with the infrastructure or the current lack of fixed direction of Microsoft to currently have any faith in them compared to Sony who are listening to developers and designed the PS4 with developers in mind and are concentrating on the core gamer....I voted Sony.

Teppic2000  Jun. 8, 2013 at 02:34

Sod them consoles, I voted for the system that's getting quite a bit of love recently. The humble PC.

Any news on the Steam Box and/or Half Life 3 could steal the show and thrust the gaming PC in the spotlight.... Well, one can dream :) Otherwise a strong showing from upcoming MMO's (The Elder Scrolls Online, Wildstar and Neverwinter) and PC exclusive titles (C&C, Company of Heroes 2, DayZ, Warface and Wasteland 2) could tip the balance.

It helps that Microsoft seem to be doing everything in their power to destroy any goodwill they have with console gamers. Perhaps revealing some exclusive games based on new IP and reversing some of their heavy DRM features could bring this horse back into the race.

The PS4 is shaping up to be a strong competitor (it's basically a locked down gaming PC with a facebook share button on it), but if the launch game line up is a handful of exclusives (and I'm pretty sure no one was asking for another Killzone sequel) and a bunch of multi-platform titles (some that will already be out on the PC) then I can't see their presentation making much of an impact. Hell, they may even announce DRM features akin to the XBOX One and completely nobble themselves in the process.

Nintendo have already lost this generation before its even begun, in attempting to appeal to both the hardcore and casual market they've appeared to lost both. I'm sure another Mario, Zelda etc etc will be well received but it's not going to get the media in a frenzy.

Sooner or later PS will announce exactly the same type of DRM measures that MS will be employing. This'll be a huge own goal for Sony and will throw the console race wide open again!

Sony has a very big decision to make that will determine the future of gaming consoles.
If Sony goes drm, the the future will be full of drm. If not, then there's hope for the future of gamers and consumers.

I just hope consumers and consumer rights win.
Some things microsoft are planning could somewhat be almost illegal in EU (unless they found a loophole in the law).

Sony could smash this one, Ps plus to stay the same price and include ps3/4 and Vita all under the one subscription. If they could use gaikai to stream ps4 games to my ps3 maybe a ps plus style system again, where they rotate games available then I could make the most of my high speed broadband and not need to upgrade my console for a bit longer.

Microsoft. They got the non-gaming stuff out of the way a couple of weeks ago, and now can focus almost entirely on the games. Sony have gone the other way, telling us a bit about their games but not mentioning/showing the console or other non-gaming features.
Sony will get a lot of press for showing us the machine, but in terms of games I anticipate Microsoft "winning" the show.

I've stuck with Sony and Microsoft, there, as I don't expect much for PC or Nintendo at e3. (That's not to say I don't expect great things from them. I have no idea what console I'll be buying next generation, but I'm currently more excited at the prospect of the Steambox than the ps4 or xb1.)

Btw, asking gamers (the majority of whom favour Sony or Microsoft) which company will do best at e3 and offering a ps3 exclusive game as an incentive to participate is a great way to skew results. (Don't bother putting me in the prize draw - I don't have a ps3.)

Mattrobinson1793  Jun. 8, 2013 at 14:56

It's got to be Sony, unless steam finally unveil the box, they should walk it. They have all the momentum going for them, thanks in part to Microsoft seeming to happyily ignore gamers concerns. I'm a big Xbox fan but im not alligned with the vison they trying to preach. I like to own my games, give them to who I want, when I want, like I can with my films and my music, it's basic stuff :/ the only Xbox one exclusive I'm interested in is quantum break, but I'm being cautious after Alan wake left much to be desired... In comparison ps4 is not much better (infamous could be interesting), but I feel the real reason playstation will win it they have a great end run of games coming out on the ps3. Beyound teo souls, the recent the last of and the rummored gt6 on the horizon (ok 5 was a mess, but im all for a come back) I feel puts them in a strong position. Not to mention the ps4 looks like it gonna be the platform of choice for developers, they seem to have learnt from the mistakes of the ps3 launch while Microsoft seem he'll bent on trying to one up ps3's terrible launch.

Nintendo on the other hand, have been punching above there position for a generation and the grim reality hit that they couldn't recharge the same 'Woh factor' that came with the wii. yes its not helped that they seem more than happy to let it float into obscurity by not backing it with an advert campaign, but the core problem is people are not seing the benefit a wii u has over the wii over than HD graphics. mario and zelda mean they will fight on but I don't expect a dominating performance akin to the last generation from Nintendo.

PC on the other hand is sort of a silent assisan, it will have a good show, It just won't get the media hype the majors will.

Anyway who cares about trolling the winner will be the money goblin that is activision when destiny drops and the sheep get hands on the new call of duty....

lukeyboi89  Jun. 8, 2013 at 15:11

i went with Sony in the end, mainly due to the hype around ps4 and im looking forward to the potential vita implementations too (just ordered the pre owned one from the game deal at HUKD)

although Ubisoft have some promising games lined up, Watch Dogs looks particularly interesting..

all i can say regarding Microsoft and Nintendo is... LOL! good luck to them

Late  Jun. 8, 2013 at 20:43

I am looking forward to Ubisoft announcing some Xbox exclusives at Microsoft's presentation, then announcing a few hours later that those exclusives will also be released on PlayStation. Exclusively.

Chris40k  Jun. 8, 2013 at 21:43

I am interested to see what Sony and Microsoft will bring to the table, especially with the new ip's Microsoft promised in the xbox one reveal. For me Sony have the edge so far but that might due to my opinion the PS3 had the best exclusives this generation and so have the best track record, Halo and Gears of War sadly didn't do much for me. That said I will probably end up with both consoles in the end but I will most likely get the PS4 first unless Microsoft show something exceptional.

Awww  Jun. 9, 2013 at 11:23

PCs 'cos they have always been and will always be the backbone of real gaming.

stevenjameshyde  Jun. 9, 2013 at 13:47

Microsoft, because they kind of have to. You'd hope that all the nasty stuff is out of the way now, and they can focus on games

hurrakan  Jun. 9, 2013 at 17:54

PC. No game is worth accepting the draconian Xbox One. Everything Microsoft does recently is a train wreck.

If I had to get a console, Sony might be worth considering.

[email protected]  Jun. 9, 2013 at 19:24

OUYA. I've heard that they have clinched exclusive Battlefield 4 rights.

You heard it here first. :)

samtman  Jun. 10, 2013 at 11:53

Sony. MS have done to much damage already so it's just damage limitation. Nintendo not having a big conference will hurt them. Ubisoft have shown most of their games already. (Watch dogs, splinter cell, Rayman Legends and AC4) although a new Rainbow Six might help.

kid_jump  Jun. 10, 2013 at 11:54

This gen, ive far more enjoyed what Sony's has done for us more than Microsoft. Sure there was there start with games like dead rising and gears of war but i think Sony won this gen with actually games.

But right now Microsoft has dug them selves a deep hole, i just.. they thought the future would be like the beginning of 360 console, were a lot of people were willing to spend money and buy games and be excited.. but no :p

kid_jump  Jun. 10, 2013 at 11:55

@dklunan i guess we'll see :) my guess is if its coming out this year, e3 is were theyll announce it.

LazerFX  Jun. 10, 2013 at 11:57

PC for me. Always been a PC Guy. Got a PS3, and an Xbox 360. Play the PS3 more than the Xbox thanks to PS+, so I keep getting 'free' games to play... but still, far prefer a PC for gaming.

So far the XBone seems to be winning the usability stakes, it looks slicker and better presented than the PS4, but... each is still a slightly fancied up, relatively beefy mid-to-high-end PC. In a couple of years, you'll buy equivalent home media centre PC's for the equivalent price of the console, which will come with infinitely more capability.

You clearly haven't seen the PS4 teaser video then? It's a black rectangle, with vents. Much like the Xbox One.
Also, they only spec it's superior in is the RAM. And even then it's not by a lot.

I reckon Ubisoft will win again. They'll show off the usual AC/Watchdogs and probably have some godawful "comedian" to take away awesome points (Aisha Tyler was great last year, the other guy wasn't). But then I reckon they've got a big surprise up their sleeve on the level of Far Cry 3/Watchdogs that will steal the show

I think Sony's going to be the big winner at E3. They've seen the problems and negative press Microsoft has faced because of their DRM and online policies, so even if they were planning something similar they can easily change their stance at E3. I only say this because there's speculation that PS4 could have the same DRM policies as Xbox One and Sony hasn't clarified their position yet. Also PS4 has better specs in numbers than Xbox One, we haven't actually had the chance to see how the consoles use those specs, although it's most likely Sony that comes up on top. Also, Sony seems to be more focused towards gamers than the Xbox One, and Sony can counter Microsoft's TV capabilities to a certain extent by including apps such as Netflix. I'm not sure I need to say much about Kinect, but the recent PRISM news hasn't showed Microsoft's new console in a positive light. People are more paranoid than ever about privacy and the 'always on' Kinect might just be enough to push some undecided gamers to the PS4.
One thing in my mind is clear though, there will be many people paying close attention to Sony's conference as there are already more people leaning towards the PS4. If Sony simply avoids the mistakes Microsoft made and unveils some kick-ass games, it could easily steal the floor at E3.

Awww - I was definitely looking forward to the prospect of having a transparent console with loads of colour-changing LEDs in it... (_;) :{

Microsoft. Herding Sheep Since 1980.

MattGardner  Jun. 10, 2013 at 13:44

No Tobuscus this year please. Never you, Tobuscus.

For some reason I really feel that Nintendo are going to pull something special out of the bag this year. I know a lot of people have fallen out of love with Nintendo recently with the generally disappointing and confusingly titled Wii-U, but they've had some of the very best E3 presentations in the past and they've always been a complete surprise.
