UK Charts: The Best Selling Games Of 2011

Drum roll please.

UKIE has finally released the full charts of 2011's highest selling games in the UK, platform by platform. As far as the all format charts are concerned, you probably won't be surprised to hear that Modern Warfare 3 has romped to victory - hounded as it is by EA's FIFA 12 and Battlefield 3. Serial chart-botherer Zumba Fitness managed to spectacularly beat Skyrim to fourth place, becoming the only game in the top ten to have not released in the holiday season.

Uncharted 3 and Gears Of War 3 both charted well on their respective systems, while Football Manager claimed overwhelming dominance on the PC.

So there you have it... and who cares? Sales are a poor way of judging games and systems unless you're a tie clip-wearing shareholder, but if you're interested, we've got the full charts below.

Considering there's a recession going on, and I'm feeling particularly broke, I'm surprised to see I've bought all of the xbox360 games mentioned there (in both the 360 and the multi-platform charts) with the exception of one - AC 2.2, which I'm sure I'll pick up from a bargain bin soon.

That's not to say I've played them all, mind. LA Noire and Saints 3 are still sat on a shelf in their cellophane patiently waiting for me to finish with Skyrim. (Not sure "patiently" is the right word, there, actually... Both keep calling out to me when nobody else is around. I've resisted their wily temptations so far, but it's difficult!)

Games I think are good recession time value, cheaper than a meal out or a visit to the cinema (if you buy games post launch).

Dear god I need to bite the bullet and 'finish' Skyrim with one of my characters...it's getting ridiculous now!

Very true. My PSP in particular is enjoying something of a renaissance - JRPGs = excellent time value.

I can believe that. You see once you start playing Football Manager, there's no stopping. You're in for the long haul, and you MUST iterate, each and every year. Many FM owners don't play any other game, the communities are vast. They don't get smaller, no one leaves. Tthey just keep adding more and more faithful.

Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting isn't really about heroin... just an extended metaphor for Football Manager.

Believe I understand that I've been buying it for my sisters birthday since they started making them! I'm confused that both 11 AND 12 outsold them I'd have expect 11 to have totally succumbed once 12 was out?!

Haha. it's absurdly addictive.

But yes, I wouldn't have expected FM 11 to come above Skyrim. That said, many people might buy into it once the price has dropped a bit in the new year, in preparation for the lack of release over late spring-summer.

I'd be interested to see breakdowns for FM by month.
