Amy Hennig, the writer and co-director behind the Uncharted series, left Naughty Dog under a bit of a cloud last month. Unsurprisingly it didn't take long for her to get snapped up by none other than Visceral Games and EA - who'll be putting the veteran director and wordsmith to work on their upcoming Star Wars game.
"Over the last few weeks, Amy and I have spent a lot of time talking about what her first project would be," explained Visceral Games VP Steve Papoutsis in a new blog post. "There are a lot of different directions we could have gone, but I could sense that what really excited her about this opportunity (because let’s face it, we weren’t the only ones knocking at her door) was Star Wars.
"Amy’s a huge fan. We happen to be making a Star Wars game. Just thinking about the possibilities made both of us even more excited about having her join the team."
This can only be good news for Visceral Games, the Star Wars license and the fans themselves. Given Hennig's proven calibre and love of the legendary franchise, I think we can all agree that it's in safe hands, and we can't wait to see what comes of the move.
Little is known about Visceral's Star Wars game save that it's probably still in early conceptual stages. Knowing their past form, it'll probably be an extremely enjoyable if slightly clunky third-person shooter - but the script-writing talent is assured. Either way, we'll keep our ears to the ground on this one.
