Unreal Anthology | £1.99 | Play | PC

Before Gears of War catapulted Epic into the mainstream, they were developing the popular Unreal series on the PC. If, like me, you missed out on most of those then Play's cut-price deal for the Unreal Anthology might interest you. For £1.99, you get the first ever Unreal, Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition, Unreal 2: The Awakening and Unreal 2004. This is a cracking deal for four, albeit retro, games, and if you have a friend or relative who you know is an old-school PC gamer this might be quite the Christmas treat.

How did 'Gears of War' manage to catapult Epic into the mainstream when they'd been there ever since 1998? Unreal was a AAA mainstream title, a critical and commercial success that spawned seven more games in the series and had the most advanced 3D graphics of any game at the time. It would have been the game of 1998 if it weren't for the fact that five months later a little game called Half-Life somewhat stole it's thunder.
