A Valley Without Wind Getting Massive Art Overhaul

Arcen Games have announced that A Valley Without Wind (their magnificent platform/adventure/civilization building hybrid) will be receiving a major graphical overhaul in due course, with work outsourced to Heavy Cat Studios. All without resorting to a Kickstarter.

Arcen's Chris Park explained that the bulk of critical reviews levelled complaints about the art style, and that releasing a day before Diablo III resulted in somewhat weak sales. They're therefore attempting to attract more players (and re-reviews) by revamping the visuals, opting for a more stylished aesthetic.

This graphical update will come complete with 12 new spells as a major update this November. You can read more on the blog.

For the record, we praised the visuals in our 9/10 A Valley Without Wind review, though we did suggest that the procedural generation lead to a fair few recycled art assets. Following an enormous update, it's now on sale at half price - there's never been a better time to get involved.

Sounds like a good idea, I like the sound of this game but I keep looking at the screen shots and thinking they look ugly and messy and so not buying. That is a little shallow but there you go.
