This game entry into the Saw franchise is a survival horror-cum-action game set in Jigsaw's special asylum which he has booby trapped with the now-familiar selection of traps, tricks and tests.
The game manages to capture the essence and feel of the films rather well and even succeeds in setting up a tense atmosphere. Like the films, this is not a game for the squeamish or faint of heart; there are plenty of moments designed to make you wince and liberal lashings of gore, accompanied by some delightfully macabre and gruesome sound effects. While the gameplay can get a little tedious and repetitive, there are some clever and satisfying puzzles to wrap your head around. The voice acting is also pretty decent. The combat, on the other hand, is pretty duff and can be rather frustrating.
Overall, Saw: The Videogame is, unsurprisingly, not a groundbreaking or excellent game but as movie tie-ins go it's an impressive title and, in contrast to many games of this type, has actually had a fair bit of thought put into its design. If you like the films then there is a good chance you will get a fair bit of enjoyment from a run through of the videogame but once it's over, you are unlikely to be coming back for more.
