Enjoy Norse mythology-themed warfare and become the God’s champion, in Viking: Battle for Asgard, available from Game for just £7.98!
According to a price-comparison, Game’s offer for Viking: Battle for Asgard is the cheapest around, with a six-pound saving! Developed by the traditionally RTS-focused Creative Assembly, Battle for Asgard failed to impress, averaging 65/100 on MetaCritic, with critics citing the flawed presentation and repetitive gameplay as their chief complaints.
Viking: Battle for Asgard imagines the struggle between the Norse gods overflows into the mortal realm of Midgard. The goddess Hel, banished from Asgard by Odin, decides to wreak vengeance and prematurely begin Ragnarok, the apocalypse. To contend with Hel’s undead army, Freya, Goddess of War, elects a mortal, Skarin, to be their Champion, bestowing him with godly powers.
Viking: Battle for Asgard unfolds the realm of Midgard into three islands, with Skarin free to choose which to explore. He must liberate slave-camps to gather further soldiers to his cause, often culminating in large-scale sieges, where Skarin must plough through hundreds of Hel’s demonic minions.
Battle for Asgard, true to its Viking namesake, is a brutal game, with graphic executions delivered by Skarin himself, as he lops off limbs and tears bodies apart. However, despite such appealing features, Battle for Asgard is simply too repetitive, with the same methods of gameplay becoming boring and stale. The sluggish frame-rate is especially annoying when mired in combat, with the game slowing to a hiccuping crawl.
