Love Plus is insanely popular in Japan, and the game that lets you have a virtual girlfriend with an off switch is getting a big fat next instalment with New Love Plus this Valentine's Day. The release of Love Plus Tools on the Nintendo eShop yesterday for 200 yen, lets gamers import their data from Love Plus and Love Plus + into the new game.
Love Plus Tools, will also offer compatibility with AR cards that to be released every Monday by Konami. Gamers will be able to print out photos of their girlfriends in A3 and A4.
The dating game is a massive hit in Japan, and often sorely misunderstood/considered highly dubious (delete as appropriate) in the West. Unlike a number of its peers, though, Love Plus is a relatively under-sexualised genre title, serving up a slice of high school romance rather than anything particularly erotic.
The new release New Love Plus will also introduce Girlfriend Mail, a paid subscription service costing 315 yen ($4) per month, though free until March, that'll see players receive emails from their in-game girlfriends, accessible via PC and smartphone. Konami have said on the New LovePlus website that you can link your game with the Girlfriend Mail service. this will mean you'll receive personalised emails and special mail on particular events such as your birthday or anniversary.
There are already a couple of petitions flying around for NA and EU localisation. Take from that what you will. No, it isn't compatible with that full length Japanese body pillow you just bought yourself. [Siliconera]
