It's been a quiet day for deals but I did notice that Shop To are selling Viva Pinata: Party Animals for the nice little price of £4.75. Sure there's not much of a game here and it's one of those hoping-for-a-sniff-of-the-Wii's-success mini game collections (and not a great one at that) that the XBox 360 churned out for a while, but for less than a fiver it becomes a far more attractive prospect, at least if you have children.
The next best price is £7.73 from The Hut, so Shop To are offering a £3 saving and the fact that they send their items by recorded delivery is a nice bonus.
Styled as a gameshow, with 4 contestants pitted against each other, while a lively host provides commentary; Party Animals offers up a number of run of the mill and samey mini-games for your delectation. Play is made up of races and randomly selected challenge games in which you compete to increase your "candiosity". You can play either on or offline but games will always feature 4 characters so if you have more than 4 friends desperate for a go then you will have to take turns and if there's less of you then computer controlled characters will be added to the mix.
It's a shame that Viva Pinata: Party Animals is such a bland, uninspiring affair because, visually, it is arresting, charming and all round rather lovely. While it is not quite as detailed as the original Viva Pinata, Party Animals is nonetheless extremely bright, pretty and saturated in candy colour. Sadly, nice visuals can only take a game so far if it is otherwise a bit of a damp squib.
