War of the Vikings Hits Steam Early Access

Paradox Interactive have slapped War of the Vikings on Steam’s Early Access programme, allowing players to dive into the constantly-evolving alpha version of Fatshark's slice-'em-up from today.

"After the first well-received War of the Vikings Alpha we began planning for the next phase and explored all options available to us,” said Gordon Van Dyke, Executive Producer of the War franchise. “We already knew we wanted to do another public Alpha and Beta, and we’d planned to offer pre-orders. After consideration, it was a no-brainer to go with Steam Early Access and kill two birds with one axe, and give our community ample opportunity to help shape the final product.”

To get kitted out, all you have to do is head over to the game's Steam page and drop £14.99 on the early Access for some historical Arena and Team Deathmatch goodness. Early Access players will of course get the final product for no extra cost, with the added bonus of helping to shape the form of the finished game.

There will be multiple packages available for purchase during Early Access, including a Standard Edition (tha's pretty self-explanatory); the Blood Eagle Edition, which includes a digital concept art book and soundtrack alongside exclusive gear; and the all-encompassing Valhalla Edition, War of the Vikings’ most premium package, which will serve up a package with all in-game content unlocked, access to all future content at no extra charge, and the aforementioned art book and an extended Deluxe Edition soundtrack.

The Blood Eagle Edition will run you £22.99, with the Valhalla Edition costing £99.99, but you can 10% off if you already own War of the Roses or Mount and Blade: Warband on Steam.
