Warner Bros Announce Batman Imposters

We heard rumblings that a new Batman title was in the works last month, but now Warner Bros has made it official. Batman Imposters, developed by Condemned and FEAR creators, Monolith Productions, is set for Xbox Live Arcade, the Playstation Network and PC. But if you were expecting a side-scrolling or maybe even top-down Arkham Asylum experience, hold onto your capes...

Because Batman Imposters is a 4 on 4 multiplayer shooter, with no real Batman or Joker in sight. Instead, you choose from Team Bats or Team Jokers, and duke it out accordingly in a variety of arenas with customizable characters and loadouts. I have to admit; I'm not particularly happy with that. Unless the execution is solid, this could turn out to be very, very bad. That said, we have no media or hands-on impressions, so it's all up for debate. [Joystiq]

Sounds worryingly bad. Why on earth would Warner risk the positively glowing impression people have of Batman games (after Batman: Arkham Asylum has done so much to raise the profile of licenced character tie-ins), on this?

If it has nothing to do with Batman or the Joker, why not have the kahunas to give it its own identity and let its sales depend on the quality of the game itself?

I hate this milking of successful IPs...

'Coming Soon - Singstar - Call of Duty' or 'Super Deus Ex Kart'.

Sheesh (wanders off grumbling inaudibly)...

I agree, this sounds insane. The whole point of batman is he doesn't even use guns so this is ridiculous. I know it says batman imposters but thats just a stupid get out clause. I loved arkham asylum and will porbably steer well clear of this until i've completed arkham city
