Nintendo has released a new firmware update for the Wii U, weighing in at 625MB. The patch promises to fix some "stability issues," though due to Nintendo's put-upon update servers, they've warned players to expect download times of approximately one hour. If your console is connected to the internet, however, it should automatically start to download in the background.
Some users are reporting that the update reduces the embarrassingly long application load times, which was a key criticism in our Wii U review. Once I've thoroughly tested these claims, I will update the article accordingly. UPDATE: load times for all applications save MiiVerse remain unchanged. No dice.
In our full review, I suggest that the Wii U is a nifty piece of kit that will be fantastic fun for early adopters, but will need more support and improvement in several areas to be considered a true console contender. The next few months will be very interesting indeed.
