Wii Passes 30 Million Mark In Europe

Balance Board Nears 42 Million

Nintendo has just announced that their home console, the Wii, has soared past the 30 million mark in Europe alone, with the Japanese mega-giant reporting the figures on Christmas Day, December 25th 2011. The figure confirms the Wii as Europe's best-selling current generation console, pipping the PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively. Sony reported the PS3 had hit 22 million in August 2011, with the number likely to have risen since then. Microsoft has declined to put an actual number on the 360's haul, while all three continue to lag behind the PS2, which has over 50 million users in Europe alone.

Furthermore, Nintendo has another figure to trumpet, with their Wii Balance Board edging ever closer to 42 million units sold worldwide. The number currently stands at 41.98 million, with the peripheral bundled between Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus, with the former edging the latter in the sales divide by almost three million units. Such success has lead to The Guinness Book of Records awarding the Balance Board the title of "best selling personal weighing device". Not bad. [Eurogamer]
