The behemoth of the MMO genre is preparing to charge back into the fold this year, as Blizzard Entertainment have announced that Mists of Pandaria, the forth expansion pack for World of Warcraft, will be released in two months’ time. Pre-orders have now begun, with a couple of options available directly from Blizzard through Battle.net.
"Mists of Pandaria contains the biggest variety of new content we've ever created for a World of Warcraft expansion, with features that will appeal to new players, veterans, and everyone in between," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment in a press release issued this afternoon. "We've received a lot of great feedback from players during our most extensive beta test yet, and we hope they enjoy exploring everything Pandaria has to offer when the expansion comes out in September."
Blizzard has also announced that along with a standard pre-order digital copy, which will cost £29.99, a Digital Deluxe Edition will also be on sale directly from them. Priced at £39.99, the Deluxe Edition will come with an flying mount for characters, a vanity pet, and cosmetic extras for StarCraft II and Diablo III. As with the previous expansions, a Collector’s Edition will be available from retail stores and will come bundled with an array of goodies, including everything in the Digital Deluxe Edition. You can head over to Battle.net for more details.
Mists of Pandaria sees the addition of the Pandarens, a new playable neutral race that will be able to join either the Horde or the Alliance. Along with revamped mechanics to all classes, including talent trees, and a new pet battle system, Blizzard hopes the new expansion will breathe new life into its MMORPG. The opening cinematic for the game will premiere at 14:00 on August 16th during this year’s Gamescom.
