World of Zoo is the kind of game which takes educational concepts and wraps them up in a series of cute, cartoony activities which will have every small child and animal lover totally besotted. The game is currently going for a measly £2.99 from Play.com which includes free delivery, and is a really superb price given that you’re looking at £15 minimum for the DS and Wii copy of the game.
Lovers of fast-paced, bloody first person shooters, or games where you run around smashing monsters over the head with metal bars aren’t really going to get too excited about World of Zoo. It’s a game which involves purchasing animals for your Zoo Park and nurturing them in a way which makes their captivity as stress free as possible. You’ll do things like build slides for Pandas, throw juicy stakes to Lions, play with baby Cheetahs, pat elephants, and so on. The better you are at looking after the animals the more currency you’ll earn and the more animals/ upgrades you can buy.
The game features various educational documentary snippets provided by National Geographic which can be unlocked, and, unlike titles like Zoo Tycoon, World of Zoo allows the player to interact will the animals as if they were an actual Zoo keeper. You’re not hovering in the sky like Zoo tycoon, but assess your park from a human perspective, which allows for a more emotional connection with the creatures you care for. All in all, World of Zoo is a fun little title which is perfect to keep small children amused over the Christmas holidays.
