Worms Creator Returns To Team 17

"There's Been A Revolution In The Studio"

Andy Davidson, the man behind the Worms franchise, has returned to Team 17 after leaving the company for "professional reasons" 14 years ago.

Davidson originally left Team 17 during the Worms series' heyday, with the intention of pursuing "other interests" as the franchise became popular. However, he's returned to Team 17 to "scratch his creative itch" - and suggests that Team 17 has undergone a creative revolution in recent years.

I left Team17 feeling I hadn’t finished what I wanted to achieve, but for professional reasons I knew I had to walk away.

I’ve returned to scratch the creative itch that’s been bothering me for the last fourteen years. It’s nice to be back at Team17, it’s as though there’s been a revolution in the studio itself – there’s a real creative buzz about the place.

Speaking of revolutions, Team 17 recently announced Worms Revolution for PC and consoles, which is set to use an entirely new engine. Davidson plans to make sure that the new project stays true to Worms' spirit while offering new gameplay innovations.

The engine and physics in Worms Revolution are awesome, the team have developed a truly landmark game. I’ll be lending them my insight to ensure that the game balance is true to the spirit of the brand.

We'll keep you posted.

Team 17 is making another worms game? That is not news; that's all they have been making for the past 17 years. It's a shame really, I remember a time when I use to look forward to games written by Team 17.

I can imagine what their meetings must be like..

"Right lets write a new game.. Any ideas?"
"Hows about another worms game"
"Brillant... lets do that"
:p

I truly hope that Worms Evolution is NOT in 3D - that's never worked. Its hard enough to control the worms in 2D!

Was playing local multiplayer Worms again recently on the iPad whilst on snowboarding holiday - it's still hilarious.

I still play worms on the 360 when I have mates over. Bomberman first then worms... but worms starts fights as whoever hides in the top corner wins. It's a dirty tactic but always works and always starts a fight.

Yeah its not quite like the Amiga days, but to be fair they did try with Alien Breed just a shame it wasn't as successful as perhaps they had hoped. I'm not sure how much has changed but I hoped that digital releases would allow them to take more risks with their old IP.
