XBMC Launches On OUYA

Just a quickie: I know that many of you were excited about the OUYA's potential for becoming an inexpensive media hub, so you should know that the official free XBMC app is now available on the marketplace. Good news for those of us who haven't already side-loaded the APK, and remember that the cubic console actually still exists.

OUYA launched to muted reception back in July, its thunder somewhat stolen by the next console generation. I'll be revisiting it soon, since a number of UI update have taken place since release. More details in our exhaustive OUYA review.

Good news. :D
Is it free?

If the console had been on the shelves 3 months ago with xbmc officially available at that time then I would've been all over it - but 3 months can be a long time. The marketplace has changed (processors have advanced, better options are available or on the horizon). Consumers' focus and priorities have changed (focussed more on November/December now).
And the fact it's only available at one place, and they're arguably charging over the odds doesn't help.

Decisions, decisions... I'll probably give it a miss, but I'm not sure...

EDIT: actually, I see amazon.co.uk are now selling the console - it's no longer game.co.uk exclusive. Same price, mind.

It is free (did mention that in the post, though should probably underline it ;) ).

I plan to write up a fairly major revisit article now that a couple of months have passed, but I'm afraid it will probably be fairly damning. I genuinely feel that the OUYA needs a lot of tough love right now.

And some exclusives. And better advertising.

Awaiting your (re)review, I might be all over this.. Only thing that concerns me now is I heard they are planning to update this consoles hardware every year. Thus this current version is already 1/4 of the way thro' it's life cycle.
I really need to know what XBMC is like streaming? can it handle HD content? or is it going to pause every few seconds?

TSUNG - xbmc hardware accelerated nightly has been available for months now - its flawless & will play 1080p natively without a hitch - & is fully capable of streaming 1080p over a network, from the many xbmc plugins & also from navi-x which most android devices cant manage.
for the money ,just for xbmc & for emulator support I still onsider it an absolute bargain.
