PayPal & Disc Format Rumours Confirmed

New Xbox 360 Dashboard Update Deploys Today... "Gradually"

Over a week ago, we brought you the news that a leaked Microsoft memo outed the date for a new dashboard update that contains Paypal functionality and firmware for a new disc format. The rumored date was May 19th... and a new statement from Microsoft PR man Major Nelson has confirmed that all of the rumours are true. The update will also set the Xbox 360 to enter standby mode after an hour of idle input by default -  but you can change this in system settings.

Oh, and look, it's the 19th today! However, unlike most updates, Microsoft will apparently be deploying the update "gradually" over the next couple of weeks. You'll know when it happens, and we wonder whether this staggered rollout has something to do with reports of bricked older Xbox models. Microsoft has been quick to deny that today's update is responsible, mind.

We are rolling out the Xbox 360 System Update gradually to all Xbox LIVE users starting today and throughout the next couple weeks to ensure a high quality deployment. Just like any other update to our service, you will know you’ve received it when you turn on your Xbox 360 console, connect to Xbox LIVE and receive a notification to download the update. It’s important to note that it may take a few days to make its way around the globe. Thanks for your patience if you don’t get it right away!

Until then, folks, it's business as usual. [Major Nelson]

I'm praying my machine's one of the tiny number that will be knackered by the update. My 360 is ancient and on it's last legs - I'd love a free replacement! ;)

Finally they have put the hour standby feature in. One thing i felt my xbox lacked over my PS3.

A fairly simple thing they have taken ages to do.

So I will be lingering around here for a while just realized I should say I am alive. If you have any questions about rs bots or any other runescape tools I am very interested and will aid everyone who needs help with anything in my area of interest. Happy to be part of this community I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys better.
