Xbox One gears up for massive Tomb Raider & Thief digital discounts

Microsoft recently held an "experiment" into competitive digital pricing by offering a 50% discount on Ryse: Son Of Rome, and we half-expected that to be the end of it.

Nope. Microsoft has announced that Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and recently-released Thief will soon receive enormous discounts on the Xbox Live marketplace, bringing them down to less than £25.

The promotion, running from Friday to Sunday, will see Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition slashed down to just £24.99. Considering that Brendan awarded a big fat juicy 10/10, this is a bit of a bargain to say the least.

Thief will also sell for £22.49: a saving of over £25. I'd love to describe it as a "steal," I really would, but Garrett's stealthy reboot has received very mixed reviews since last month's launch. Matt reckons it's pretty good, though - and at £22.49, I daresay a fair few more people will bite. Several people will also laugh long and hard, seeing the funny side of spending £30-40 just last month. How they'll laugh.

This is more like it, though once again, it's a sale rather than an attempt to normalise Xbox One's extravagant digital prices. If Microsoft can find a happy medium between £25 and £50-£60 at launch, they'll be cooking with gas.

The "sale" is of no use to me (I was one of the very few who wasn't all that impressed with the Tomb Raider (xb360), so a slightly shiner version doesn't appeal; and I bought Thief (xb1) on disk - and didn't much like it).
I believe COD: Ghosts is also in the sale - but I already have that too. And didn't like it much.

I'm very happy to see the offer, though! There's nothing for me this time but hopefully we'll see more sales in the future. With games I'm interested in and don't already own.
