Xbox One Headset Revealed, Won't Be Included In-Box

Microsoft have officially unveiled the Xbox One headset. Prepare yourself: shockingly, it's a black plastic affair with two volume control buttons, a mute button, single speaker, microphone... it's a headset. It looks like a headset.

IGN have further detailed that it will use a wideband voice codec to improve clarity, though won't be included as standard with new consoles (pricing TBA). If you want a closer look at it, perhaps because you're having a very slow day, you can do so after the break.

You're asking us to stump up four hundred and thirty quid, and you won't even throw in your £2 headset - you'll instead sell it separately (for about £15?).

I understand the headset is an optional peripheral, so some wouldn't use it and some would eschew them for their premium Turtle Beaches etc. - but to not include the basic headset is just cheap.

I assume that Kinect will allow you to voice chat without a headset (the original model certainly does, though quality is questionable at best).

But, erm, yeah. I agree.

Microsoft. You've got this the wrong way around! Include the headset as that does get used by quiet a few people. It was the Kinect that you were supposed to sell separate! You know...because not many people want to be forced to use one, and it would have kept the costs down...and..and..

There's still one or two out there who are ignorant to where they want to take gaming and are still willing to reward them financially for trying to revoke your ownership of games you've paid for.

From the company that sold proprietary hard drives, WiFi adaptors and play 'n' charge kits this can't be too much of a surprise to you..

.. and this is coming from someone who owns three 360's (1 PAL, 1 NTSC-J, 1 PAL whose Ethernet board has packed-up)

Thanks, I was at a loss for a while there.
