Xbox Live DOTW: Defence, Clones, Riots and Chime!

This week's official Microsoft deal focuses on critical successes... so you know there's some quality up for grabs at bargain prices. Remember that only Gold Members can access these reductions- and you'll need to log in! Alternatively, just grab them straight off the dashboard.

Defense Grid is... a grid-based tower defence game. Sorry, I mean the grid-based Tower Defence Game. Featuring huge tactical scope and some wickedly clever levels, you won't be able to part with this one for a while. Plus, the fact that the titular grid is stunningly voiced by a sarcastic, charming and occasionally obsequious voice actor adds to the value.

PB Winterbottom is all about clones. Unlike certain wars I could mention, Winterbottom provides genuine platform challenges with a beautiful art style. Whilst I'd still suggest picking up Braid rather than this one, you could certainly do worse.

Okay, it's time for a little shout out to one of the most overlooked games on the service. Rocket Riot mixes tactical Worms-style bazooka action with the immediacy of a twinstick shooter and literally combines the best of both worlds. A wicked nu-retro style and one of the best soundtracks ever makes for a fantastic and frequently overlooked little shooter. Get a few friends involved and you've got yourself several hours of addictive entertainment.

Chime might have outlived its charity commitment, but it's still well worth a punt.  240 MSP will net you a unique little audiovisual puzzler that'll tide you over for a while.

Oh yeah, and Poker Smash has also been price-slashed. Personally, I'd just buy a deck of cards... but it's well worth a look for Poker fanatics. The three-man dev team have done a great job that deserves checking out. Definitely worth a demo!
