Finding great deals on games is all well and good- but it's finding good prices for the daily gaming essentials that really make the difference. Xbox Live Gold membership is required to play online and enjoy most of the social networking features of Microsoft's gaming service, and Amazon are currently charging £27.97 for a year's worth. This will save you at a fiver compared to its nearest competitors (Play.com, for one).
This brings it down to the level of most eBay powersellers and unauthorised stockists- which can only be a good thing. Whilst you may have to wait longer for your posted card than an emailed code, you'll have the peace of mind that you can only get from a big-name stockist. I've personally had mixed experiences with powersellers and playtraders (finding them an eclectic mix of genuine legends and downright identity thieves), and for most people the extra 3-5 day's wait will be well worth the saving. It also makes it a reasonable gift for Xbox owners.
Gold membership also gets you access to the Xbox Live Deal of the Week- which will currently let you get your hook into The Secret of Monkey Island for half price. Keep your eyes on our XBLA roundups for the latest news!
