Xbox One Supports Eight Simultaneous Controllers

The official Xbox One controller product page is now live, and contains an interesting tidbit. Apparently up to eight controllers can be simultaneously synced with the entertainment system, which could potentially make for some utterly insane local multiplayer opportunities once [email protected] starts running at full speed. Kinect's facial recognition will ensure that each controller is properly assigned to a player's profile without faffing about with menus, at least, in theory.

Matt got hands-on with the Xbox One controller at Gamescom, describing it as "seriously impressive where it counts: when you're actually holding it."

At around fifty quid per controller, you're into remortgage territory if you want to play eight-player local multiplayer on a next gen console!

Well obviously people would bring their own controllers from home.

Does it support 360 controllers?

@DesG: Unfortunately not, sorry.

In better news, though, another look at the product page reveals a 30ft operating wireless range. Only useful if you've hooked it up to a massive projector, perhaps, but good to know.
