XCOM: Enemy Within Revealed, Will Be Announced At Gamescom

But What Is It?

Something called XCOM: Enemy Within is going to be announced on August 21st, though 2K aren't willing to tell us what it is yet.

Totally out of the blue, this new IP suddenly hit the Korean ratings board for PCPS3 and Xbox 360. The often prophetic Steam Database also carries a listing. 2K Games have since confirmed that Enemy Within is a thing, but refuse to release any more details until Gamescom. “We’re looking forward to making an announcement on August 21. We don’t have any further comment at this time," reads their boilerplate.

So, it's time to hazard an educated guess. As far as we're concerned, this has XCOM: Enemy Unknown DLC written all over it, perhaps a major expansion as opposed to the smaller Slingshot pack. We'll find out soon enough. [via CVG]

You refer to it as Enemy Unknown halfway through the article, which is funny because I was going to point out how silly it is to have a sequel (or whatever it is) with such a similar name. :p

Ooh, nice! Didn't think we'd see any new xcom for a while yet :D

Please don't be xcom terror from the deep. Unlikely, given the name change, but always a worry...

For those that didn't play the original games back in the day, xcom terror from the deep was the second game. It was essentially the first game but with a few new skins on the aliens, tech, etc. - and set under water rather than land. It was a good game, because it was pretty much the first game repackaged (with the difficulty turned up a notch) but it was a rip off to pay for both...
