Xotic Announced For XBLA

WXP Games have revealed a new FPS for Xbox Live Arcade, and by the looks of things, it's kicking the drab brown genre conventions straight to the kerb. Xotic is a cross between standard shooters and score-hunting arcade thrills; packaged in an incredibly colourful art style and "bio-organic environments." Full details below.

WXP Games have announced Xotic for a summer release on XBLA, to be co-published by TikGames and Valcon. It's set to deliver classic 'arcade' thrills that revolve around killing foes to garner scoreboard bragging rights. I'll let TikGames Founder Anatoly Tikhman explain:

Xotic is an all-new twist on a genre full of likeminded games. Instead of running around and shooting the same old soldiers with the same old guns, in this game players will be exploring a unique bio-organic environment while aiming to rack up millions of points and a spot at the top of the leaderboards.

Consecutively Shooting enemies and environmental targets (such as the nasty-sounding Scab Plants) creates chain combos that lead to high scores, and persistent experience points will allow players to upgrade their arsenal and skills. Beyond global leaderboards, we currently have no idea whether cooperative multiplayer will make an appearance.

However, it's the art style rather than the gameplay that's likely to break Xotic out of the pack. It's set to be a symphony of bright colours and creative character design that could provide a much-needed breath of fresh air.

I think players will be surprised by the creativity and uniqueness of Xotic. "There isn't another shooter like Xotic, with its blend of FPS action and arcade-style compulsion towards achieving ever-higher scores. - Patrick Moynihan, WXP Games Studio Director

We'll keep an eye on it.
