Update: Although we stuck this one up only the other day, Zavvi have not only lowered the price on this game now but, in conjunction with their April deal vouchers, you can now get this title for just £22.95.
It's not easy to turn your back on a life of honourable crime. All Kazuma really wanted to do was just kick back and look after a few underprivileged kids, but no, the seedy world of gangland violence comes creeping back to his door and soon enough he's back out on the streets dressed like a Miami Vice auditionee, talking with his fists once more.
If you fancy grabbing an RPGesque brawler that's stuffed to the gills with mini-games, then Yakuza 3 might just be right up your street. Zavvi are currently selling the game for £24.9 but if you type in APRIL2 at the checkout you can get an extra £2 knocked off, saving you a total of over £6.50 on the nearest competitor over at Coolshop.
NB. Remember to use the voucher code APRIL2 to get it at this price.
Don't expect to be plunged straight back into vengeful action. Before Kazuma's newfound home comes under threat, it's clear that SEGA wants you to get a feel for the place so expect to spend about four or five hours running errands for the poor children and having your heartstrings tugged at. It sets the scene quite nicely, but it does drag a bit.
When the game finally kicks into gear, though, everything suddenly gets very familiar and the game transforms into the stylish sandbox that we know and love. Fighting is pleasantly bone-crunching with some nice context sensitive moves that see Kazuma using the environment around in him in creatively violent fashion.
More than anything, though, this is a game filled with things to do. From the avalanche of missions and sub-quests to the hordes of collectibles to the garishly coloured mini-game arcades, as Brendan notes in his review, you can get nearly twenty hours into this game and still have only completed less than a fifth of it!
A feature packed, ADD-soaked game, then, that gives you a surprisingly large amount of bang for your buck after a somewhat slow beginning.
